This is Crazy!!

I can't believe we are already in September. Here we are and this month the challenge was to do a crazy quilt. We have a generous sponsor in Aurifil Threads and of course a stunning line of fabrics from Lumin Fabrics / Island Batik with the Frosted Foliage line. The fabric colors were just stunning. I don't think photos of this line do it justice! You have to see the vibrant colors for this line in person!!
Thread - of course a crazy quilt is all about the thread and Aruifil delivered! When we were asked to pick out thread colors for our challenge I actually said "you all can pick for me". I did this for 3 reasons. First because I already own lots of Aurifil thread (and LOVE it). Second because I do not have the fabric in front of me so I don't know what to pick. I am more a hands on person when picking items for my projects and I trust fully the Lumin fabric staff. They do an amazing job supporting us and getting us what we need and I knew they would do it again. And lastly because with a crazy quilt there are no rules. The thread matches, the thread doesn't. The thread is fine the thread is thick. The thread is cotton, the thread is not ... this is all what adds to the charm of the crazy quilts.
Crazy quilts have not been something I have done much research on so time to turn to Pintrest. I found a wide variety of crazy quilts that provided inspiration. This challenge is intended to showcase Aurifil thread with this fabric. I decided to take it one step further and also showcase what a wonderful embroidery thread Aurifil can be as well.
I then used Embrilliance software to lay out my blocks. How I did this can be seen in it's entirity on my youtube channel.
I then searched for the perfect embroidery designs for use in the middles of each block. I found them on Designs by JuJu. (www.designsbyjuju.com). They were perfect for what I wanted.
Next step was to get all the blocks cut. Since I decided to do this as an "In the hoop" project. Accuracy was going to matter. I turned to my Scan N Cut to get perfectly cut pieces. How I did that can be seen in this video.
Pieces are cut, designs are ready, so now it is time to do some stitching
This went together so easily. I am now convinced that I will be doing another crazy quilt!
Here are some of the blocks that went into this project.
Now that all of the blocks are complete, it is time to assemble the pieces. I am very happy with the thread colors, the variety, and how this is coming together.
Quick trip to the longarm and now it is finished!! I am ready to do this again!

Great job, Kimberly!
This is super pretty! Thank you for showing the close ups of the embroidered blocks. Love it! Have a great day.
Beautiful!!! I love the fabric collection and all the embroidery designs are perfect! 😍
